ECB Head Urges Creation of European Ledger - Will Europe Lead Future of Crypto?

In a pivotal speech at the Bundesbank Symposium, ECB Director Piero Cipollone called for the creation of a European ledger, a digital platform designed to support tokenization in the capital markets. He emphasized that instead of perceiving tokenization and distributed ledger technology (DLT) as threats, Europe should seize the opportunity to build a Digital Capital Markets Union. Cipollone warned of the risks in delaying action, such as losing financial sovereignty to global competitors and increasing market fragmentation. He also highlighted the need for central bank money to be a cornerstone of this digital transition to ensure stability. Ultimately, he envisioned a future where Europe leads in creating a more efficient, integrated, and innovative financial ecosystem.

Meanwhile, State Street Bank envisions tokenized bonds and money market funds to marry crypto with traditional finance while China and Russia celebrate 75 years of collaboration and renewed commitment to partnership.
